Skip Rung

Ruling Elder

Skip was baptized as an infant and raised in a non-denominational church. He doesn’t recall any awareness of Jesus as his savior until age 16, when he attended Young Life meetings and his church youth group led by an inspirational youth pastor. He (mostly) hasn’t looked back.

I met his wife, Laura, at a dorm bible study at Stanford University. They married after she completed medical school. In spite of the marrying pastor’s exhortation, children were the last thing on their minds as Laura began her residency, but they have been been immeasurably blessed and delighted with three children and four grandchildren.

The family moved from California to Oregon in 1983, and were invited to Calvin Presbyterian Church by an HP colleague. Nancy Lyford, then CE director, welcomed them and their fist child (whom she cared for while they welcomed their second at Good Samaritan Hospital). It is now Skip and Laura’s joy privilege to welcome and worship alongside newcomers to Calvin.

Skip’s call and ministry interests are in Bible study and teaching, Christian worldview development (applied theology), and piano accompaniment for worship.
